
Wendy Sharpe
Australian Artist
Wendy Sharpe was born in 1960 and is an Australian artist who lives and works between Sydney and Paris. She has held numerous solo exhibitions both nationally and internationally and has received many prestigious awards and artist residencies throughout her career. Wendy was appointed an official Australian war artist in East Timor during 1999–2000. Her practice is centred around portraiture and figurative painting, often blending real-life subjects with imagined and symbolic elements. Since the mid-1980s, she has exhibited consistently across Australia and internationally, presenting more than 70 solo exhibitions in commercial galleries, state galleries and museums. Her work has also been exhibited in the UK, France, China and Germany. Among her many accolades, Wendy won the Archibald Prize in 1996 and the Sulman Prize in 1986.
