Australian Art
Since European settlement, Australian artists have forged an enviable reputation. Names like Streeton, McCubbin. Heysen, Drysdale, Boyd, Nolan, Whiteley and many others can be found in major collections throughout the world, and these artists have worked in a range of mediums. Our auctions feature works from the gamut of Australian artists, both past and present, with examples of pastels, charcoals and watercolours and works on paper available as well as oils and acrylics.
International Art
Okay, so you’re not likely to find a $30,000,000 Picasso or a museum quality Rembrandt canvas at one of our auctions – it’s a bit out of our league – but you will find original lithographs, etchings, heliographs, offsets and limited edition prints by some of the most famous painters of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Aboriginal Art
Long before the advent of European settlement, Aboriginal artists established a long and proud tradition of art that celebrated culture, customs and the landscape. Neglected and often dismissed, it enjoyed a long overdue revival in the 80s and early 90s, and is now considered to be one of the most collectable art forms in the world today. Ranging in size from small pieces to oversize corporate commissions, all works are accompanied with a certificate of provenance.
Bronze Sculptures
At all Charleston’s auctions we include a selection of high quality bronze sculptures and fountains from the classical, art nouveau and art deco periods through to modern day pieces in a variety of sizes. All are created using the ‘lost wax’ process, considered the most precise casting method available to ensure accurate reproductions of the original works.
As well as classical reproductions, the sculptures we feature were originally created by some of the best-known European and American sculptors working in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Hand-Woven Carpets
We also source a number of fine quality, hand knotted carpets, including tribal and traditional pieces from Iran, Turkey, India, Tibet, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Ranging in size from small scatter carpets through to large palatial pieces, these are works of art created in the finest quality wools, cottons and silks.
