Our Auctions

At Charleston’s, our passion is to bring you beautiful fine art at reasonable prices. We carry a range of pieces by renowned Australian, Aboriginal, and international artists, making our fine art auctions a must-attend event for art lovers.

Choose from a range of artworks in a variety of mediums, from original oils and acrylics through to silk-screening, lithographs, decorative prints, and more. We are proud of our inventory and we guarantee our catalogue descriptions.

We have also developed a reputation for delivering highly desirable bronze sculptures, both original and smaller replicas of masterpieces from the likes of Rodin and Henry Moore. You can also choose from an exquisite range of handmade silk and woollen carpets that continually prove popular.

We believe that art is for everyone, which is why we’re the only auction house that travels to major regional areas as well as the big cities, offering fine art auctions that are accessible to collectors across the country.

Australian Art

Since European settlement, Australian artists have forged an enviable reputation. Names like Streeton, McCubbin, Heysen, Drysdale, Boyd, Nolan, Whiteley, and many others can be found in major collections throughout the world, and these artists have worked in a range of mediums.

Our auctions feature works from the gamut of Australian artists, both past and present, with examples of pastels, charcoals, and watercolours, as well as oils and acrylics.

Artists we feature include: Matthew Johnson, David Bromley, Jasper Knight, Charles Blackman, John Olsen, David Boyd, Zhong Chen, Cheryl Cusick, Pro Hart, Kym Hart, Robert Dickerson, Jeffrey Smart, Tim Storrier, Mark Hanham, Gillie and Marc, Bruce Earles, Colin Parker, Adam Cullen, Judy Cassab, Herman Pekel, Brett Whiteley, Sidney Nolan, John Coburn, Arthur Boyd, David Rankin, Geoffrey Proud, Radishka, Cheryl Petersen, Wendy Joyce, Peter Browne, Michael Jones, Paul Margocsy, Norman Lindsay, Ray Crooke, Constantine Popov, Kristie Stenning, Werner Filipich, Franz Krause, Margaret Olley, and others.

International Art

Okay, so you’re not likely to find a $30,000,000 Picasso or a museum-quality Rembrandt canvas at one of our auctions – that’s a bit out of our league – but you will find original lithographs, etchings, heliographs, offsets, and limited edition prints by some of the most famous painters of the 19th and 20th centuries.

We offer works from a range of famous artists including Salvador Dalí, Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Nastya Rovenskaya, Erté, Gustav Klimt, Edgar Degas, Auguste Rodin, Louis Icart, Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, Alberto Giacometti, Edouard Manet, Jane Wooster-Scott, Leroy Neiman, Fernando de Jesus Oliveira, Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, Itzchak Tarkay, and others.

Aboriginal Art

Long before the advent of European settlement, Aboriginal artists established a long and proud tradition of art that celebrated culture, customs, and the landscape. Neglected and often dismissed, Aboriginal art has enjoyed a long-overdue revival since the 80s and early 90s, and is now considered to be one of the most collectable art forms in the world today. Ranging in size from small pieces to oversized corporate commissions, all works are accompanied upon request with a certificate of provenance that includes a photo of the artist with the artwork.

Aboriginal artists we feature include: Gabriella Possum, Judy Watson, Charmaine Pwerle, Makinti Napanangka, Betty Club Mbitjana, Clarise Tunkin, Gloria Petyarre, Freda Price, Lily Kelly, Jeannie Pitjarra, Anna Price Petyarre, Barbara Weir, Karen Bird, Ningura Napurrula, Yinarupa Nangala, Kathleen Petyarre, Nellie Marks Nakamarra, Alice Granites, Marlene Young, Carolanne Ken, Abie Loy Kemarre, Thomas Tjapaltjarri, Michelle Possum, Jeannie Mills, Bernadine Johnson, Kay Baker, Barbara Baker, Maureen Hudson, Janet Golder, Samantha Daniels, Lynette Corby, Mitjili Napurrula, Margaret Lewis Napangardi, Lisa Mills, Mary Pitjara, Margaret Scobie, Bessie Pitjara, Rachael Nambula, Heather Long, and others.
