Pro Hart was born in Broken Hill in 1928, Hart studied at the Broken Hill Technical College. After a period of working in the Broken Hill mines he spent several years developing a distinct semi–primitive style. His paintings, usually in oil, have an unmistakably Australian flavour. A prolific painter, Hart is probably the best known and most popular artist in Australia today.

He owned and operated a private gallery in Broken Hill which housed one of the most extensive private collections in Australia. His work is represented in public and private collections in Australia and England. Hart died in 2006.
