Bernadine Johnson Kemarre
Aboriginal Artist
Bernadine Kemarre was born in 1974 in Santa Teresa in the Ltyentye Apurte Community, East of Alice Springs, NT. She comes from a family of famous artists including Abie Loy and Josie Petrick Kemarre. She learnt to paint from a young age and has become a popular artist through her use of bold colours and intricate painting style. Bernadine often paints the stories of Bush Tucker and Medicine Leaves. She grew up learning the Dreaming’s of her country, the sacred ceremonies and rituals, and the important bush foods and medicines – and now skillfully weaves her cultural identity into her paintings. Bernadine has developed a unique style of the Bush Medicine design, depicting the leaves and petals in brightly coloured brush strokes.
