Abie Loy Kemarre

Born in 1972, Abie Loy Kemarre is from the Aboriginal community of Utopia in Central Australia. Abie began painting in 1994 under the guidance of her grandmother and renowned artist, Kathleen Petyarre. She adopted the delicate dotting technique used by Kathleen as well as developing her own unique style. Her paintings have evolved with the masterful use of colours and bold and abstract forms to represent her inherited Dreamings. Abie Loy is a highly acclaimed artist and is regarded as one of the leading contemporary indigenous artists in Australia. The stories that are portrayed in Abie’s paintings include Body Painting, Bush Hen Dreaming and Bush Leaves. Her work is held in Australian public collections including National Gallery of Victoria and Art Gallery of South Australia
