Discover Art in Canberra

Canberra has a lot to offer art lovers and has many museums and galleries of art. Some of the city’s (and the nation’s) top galleries include:

National Gallery of Australia
The National Gallery of Australia is located on the south side of Lake Burley Griffin and houses the nation’s permanent collection of visual arts including  Australian art, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, Pacific art, Asian art, European art and American art. The gallery also plays host to a program of popular exhibitions of major Australian and international art works.

National Portrait Gallery
The National Portrait Gallery located on King Edward Terrace in Canberra is the nation’s collection of portraiture featuring portraits of prominent Australians.

Charleston’s was formed in 1997 by a group of like-minded individuals who shared a passion for art. We also had a common belief though art can be defined as “fine”, it doesn’t necessarily mean it should be elitist nor affordable only to investment bankers and multinational corporations.

By creating Australia’s first and, by far, most successful travelling art auction house, we regularly bring quality works of art to Australia’s capital cities and we are the only auction house that travels to major regional centres.
